School Life

Adogawa Junior High School is in Japan.  There are many differences between Japanese and American schools.  This page explains some of those differences.

School Uniforms

Most students in Japan have to wear uniforms.  In Adogawa, there is a normal school uniform and a P.E. school uniform.  Each uniform has a jacket and an undershirt, so they can be used in the summer and the winter.  Most students like their uniforms

In America : Most students do not wear school uniforms.  Students do not like uniforms.  They wear normal clothes to school.

Clubs

In Japan, almost everyone joins one club.  Students practice from the end of school until late in the evening.  Students also practice on the weekend.  Many students go to school every day of the week to play sports and to study.

In America : Most students do not join clubs.  Most students go home and play with their friends.  Students never go to school on weekends.

Homerooms

Students in Japan have a homeroom and they stay in their homeroom most of the day.  They never change class rooms, and each class is in their homerooms.  Teachers move from class to class instead.  Students only move for art, music, P.E. and sometimes science.

In America : Students go to different rooms.  There is an English room, a science room, a math room, and other rooms.  There are homerooms, but we go to homeroom in the morning only.

Cleaning Time

In Japan, students clean the entire school.  They use rags and brooms to clean their classrooms, the hallways, the genkan, everywhere, all day.  Everyone cleans up.  In Adogawa, teachers watch the students to make sure they do a good job.

In America : Students do not clean the school.  There is no cleaning time.  Many “janitors” clean the school after students go home.
